From the view of the different applications, the specific problems and the goals of increasing productivity and quality, classic types of tanks were not always suitable. The danger of destruction of the porcelain enamel through electrostatic charge and discharge can be avoided by the use of electric discharging enamel where the creepage increases fast so that a voltage rise which is the reason for defects on the enamel surface is avoided. Special developments of parts (flanges) or accessories (special valves), sight glasses melted in covers or heat exchangers and enameled profile punching plates for heating or cooling show huge advantages compared with the old system.

The technical porcelain enamel in the field of instruments is an excellent material which can be used under different operation- and stress conditions. Porcelain Enamel is a very modern and flexible material in the chemic- and pharmacy industry.
The only material which can be compared to the possibilities of enamel is Tantal, but its use has fundamental disadvantages. These are mainly the costs of the material and the welding which has to be done under controlled atmosphere. In addition Tantal embrittles because of hydrogen which means that tanks made of Tantal can hardly be used for hydration- and dehydration processes. Other materials are also very restricted in their use for applications for example stainless steels and alloys which had a huge price increase (+30% June 2005) and their components (Ni, Cr and Mo) catalyze unwanted reactions.
